SPANISH ABA SESSION NOTES
What teams should consider when documenting in Spanish.
Spanish documentation requires more than a word-for-word translation. Clinical meaning, observable language, and the organization’s submission requirements must remain clear.
Confirm which language is accepted
Before preparing a note in Spanish, confirm the language required by the employer, supervisor, payer, and clinical record system. A team may communicate in Spanish while still requiring the official record in English. The person responsible for the record should verify the applicable rule before submission.
Preserve observable meaning
A translation should preserve what happened rather than replace the original event with a broader interpretation. Clinical terms, prompting levels, interventions, replacement programs, and client responses should be reviewed by a professional who understands both the language and the ABA context.
“The client requested a break following a verbal prompt.”
“El cliente pidió un descanso después de una indicación verbal.”
Use bilingual professional review
Automated translation can produce fluent wording while changing a clinically important detail. A bilingual RBT, BCaBA, BCBA, or other authorized reviewer should compare the output with the original session facts and correct terminology before it becomes part of a record.
Current ABA NoteFlow language availability
ABA NoteFlow currently focuses on English interface text and English note drafts. A future language option may allow the interface and draft language to be selected separately. Until that feature is released, the website should not be presented as providing verified Spanish clinical documentation.
La precisión sigue siendo responsabilidad del profesional
La herramienta puede ayudar a organizar un borrador, pero el profesional debe revisar cada oración, confirmar que refleja la sesión y seguir los requisitos de su agencia, supervisor y pagador. No se debe incluir información protegida o que identifique al cliente.
